Does anyone make high security plantation style shutters?

Main Post:

A brief search brings up dozens of security shutters but nothing that looks basically like normal shutters. Does anyone make something like classic looking high security shutters to secure windows?

Antebellum Style Homes

Main Post:

Has anyone here built a Southern Antebellum style home?

Love the style of the old homes with the two story porches, but don't really love the modern floor plans, and looking to see if anyone else has done anything.

Top Comment:

Slave plantation style homes don't make a ton of sense with newer building techniques and hvac, specifically the skinny but ultra tall windows.

The extreme cost of 2 floors of full wrap around porches deters almost anyone not trying to build a historic replica.

Remove or Keep Plantation Shutters?

Main Post:

Trying to modernize our new home more and I’m not sure what to do about these plantation shutters. I’ve seen on here that a lot of people love them but I really think for this house in particular they make it look older. Thoughts?

Top Comment:

I like these because they look more modern since they don't have the central tilt rod. Hidden tilt rods give a more modern/contemporary look and cleaner lines. There's usually an upcharge for doing them this way BTW. It was a good upgrade for this situation. You would have had 8 extra vertical lines thrown in the mix! Keep them!

Not a McM. This is just a southern plantation style house. Looks pretty true to form.

Are Plantation Shutters becoming passé?

Main Post:

Just a harmless question.

I like them, it just seems as if they are absolutely everywhere now.

Top Comment:

I think it really depends on the house and decor. Some houses the really pop and others is meh.
